THE ROLE

Support the Head of Risk & Internal Control in enhancing and embedding the risk management framework across the group through regular engagement, communication, and training with management to effectively manage risk and identify opportunities to meet the business’ corporate objectives.

Support the organisation in developing their internal control maturity through the application of the internal control framework. Develop a network of risk and control specialists to support the operation of a Control Self-Assessment (CSA) programme across markets, sites, and central functions, coordinating, monitoring, and reporting on the lifecycle of the programme.

Responsibilities of the Head of Risk and Internal Control will include:

Internal Control

  • Support the development and maintenance of the internal control framework and make recommendations on changes required to strengthen the organisation’s internal controls.
  • Project manage the planning, roll out and monitoring of the CSA programme, consolidating management responses to identify common control deficiencies.
  • Develop a network of risk and control specialists to assess the quality and effectiveness of the management of control self-assessment activities in line with the Controls and Risk Evaluation (CARE) tool.
  • Assist control owners in defining appropriate remediation actions to address identified control deficiencies and effectively reduce risk exposure.
  • Support engagement within Internal Audit such that relevant control assessments can be taken into consideration when planning and executing internal audit reviews.
  • Develop effective working relationships with key business stakeholders, building trust and becoming a valued source of support, challenge, and guidance.

Risk Management

  • Monitor, maintain and enhance the organisation’s risk management processes, to support the application of a common risk management framework across the group.
  • Prepare and deliver risk and controls training, including raising the awareness of key policies and procedures, to enhance knowledge and improve the understanding of risk and controls across the group.
  • Contribute to the improvement of risk management practices and challenge the appropriateness and validity of defined controls to address key risks in the organisation.
  • Identify emerging risks in the sector and help define appropriate strategies to assess and address.
  • Engage with the Internal Audit team to ensure regular collaboration and communication channels are in place to enable effective cross-functional working.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • A relevant professional qualification in finance and/or risk assurance discipline with extensive experience and understanding of finance function operations, processes and services.
  • Sound knowledge of project management techniques and approaches to change management, alongside proven programme and/or project delivery experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of, and experience developing and implementing, methodologies and strategies to provide assurance over internal controls and to embed risk management activities.
  • Familiarity and awareness of IT and financial systems, particularly in the context of their impact on the control environment.
  • Excellent written and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to quickly build credible relationships across the business, including with senior stakeholders such as the Board and Audit Committees.
  • Proven people management skills, and the ability to work across and motivate cross-functional team in the delivery of complex projects / programmes.
  • Eager to learn quickly and to obtain extensive experience of an exciting, fast-moving, international business.
  • Demonstrates strong judgement, political astuteness, and sensitivity to cultural diversity.
  • Ability to work co-operatively alongside others while retaining the capacity to form and articulate independent views and opinions.
