Non-for-Profit Sector - Finance Executive/Management
Ref: 3513 Date Posted: Monday 13 Dec 2021

Apex Scotland is looking for new members who can bring enthusiasm and experience to the Board of a dynamic and hard-working third sector organisation.  For over thirty years Apex Scotland has been a leading provider of innovative and effective services to people who have criminal convictions or who are at risk of getting them, with a specific focus on developing work readiness and entry to employment.

Due to recent changes in their Board, they are now looking to recruit some exceptional people with knowledge in the finance and accounting field to help them move their strategy forward.

With a head office in Edinburgh and offices across the country, Apex is involved in policy and practice in partnership with both national and local Government and other third sector entities.  They operate in communities, schools, and prisons, providing work opportunities through social enterprise and offering training, early intervention, mentoring, and employment support to over five thousand individuals every year. The last year has been a challenge, as it has for many, and they have adapted their services to continue to provide support to those who most need it.

The Position

The Board is responsible for setting strategy, governance oversight, and supporting the aims and objectives of Apex Scotland.  Trustees meet on average four times a year as a full Board and there is also an expectation of some committee work in support of specific governance areas.  Board members join with staff to attend their annual national conference and enjoy networking at their Annual Lecture, held every September in Edinburgh.

They are particularly seeking potential members who can bring skills and experience in financial planning; operational financial management; being able to understand and interpret financial accounts; experience or understanding of internal and external audits, and the processes involved in this, as well as risk management.

This is an exciting opportunity to bring finance and accounting skills to they board and would suit a part or fully qualified accountant who has knowledge of financial strategy; development of business cases and options appraisal.  Experience in the third sector or public sector finance, and political and/or community engagement would also be an advantage.  Apex Scotland is recognised as an equal opportunity employer and would welcome applicants from under-represented groups.

Application Process

If this interests you or you would like to know more please contact Alan Staff for an informal chat by email to alan.staff@apexscotland.org.uk.  If you would like to apply to become a member of their Board then please complete the application form on their website at www.apexscotland.org.uk/work-with-us/job-vacancies/

Closing date for returned applications: 12 noon on Wednesday 22 September 2021. They plan to hold interviews on Friday 15 October 2021.

For any general recruitment enquiries, please contact hr@apexscotland.org.uk

This is an unpaid voluntary role.  Whilst their head office is in Edinburgh, they have a presence throughout Scotland and would welcome applications from across the country.  Travel expenses can be paid for attendance at Apex Scotland events and meetings, they are also making full use of virtual meeting technology.
