Blackwood Homes and Care was founded in 1972 by Dr Margaret Blackwood MBE, a campaigner for the rights and independence of disabled people.

Dr Blackwood was awarded her MBE for her dedication to improving the lives of disabled people and bringing awareness to a lack of adapted homes. She was deeply committed to people being able to live independent lives and, following her work to improve their financial situation, set her sights on providing housing that was suitably designed for disabled people.

The employer is a well-established non-for-profit organisation whose aim is to provide exemplary care, support and housing to those of all disability. They are based all over Scotland and are constantly striving to improve their services. Therefore, they are looking to hire an individual who is able to bring fresh ideas to the table; and who is looking to make a direct impact to a great cause! They are currently undergoing some exciting new projects and are looking for someone to take the lead on them.

The Role

The role of Management Accountant will report to the Finance Manager, with a an experienced team around them. The successful individual will take responsibility for the programme accounting within the BNIL Project - This project is across three neighbourhoods within Scotland. The ‘Peoplehood’ project is a 3-year project focusing on the challenge of helping people live for 5 more productive years by:Designing homes which support residents to age in place; Sustaining physical activity'; Managing common complaints of ageing through creation of affordable products and services to improve self-reported health and wellbeing; Supporting social connections by reducing isolation through gamification and Creating healthy and active places. They will also be involved in the preparation of monthly management accounts; budgeting and forecasting, providing financial support to service management on a business partnering like basis; and VAT and other relevant statutory returns. 

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will be able to build efficient working relationships with a number of non-finance stakeholders within the organisation.

You will be involved with but not limited to the following duties:

  • Provide support to the Programme Lead including up to date financial information on each of the workstreams to support reporting timelines
  • Ad-hoc financial analysis and options appraisals as required by the Programme Lead to support decision-making as required
  • Reporting to the Finance Manager
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Financial Planning and performance monitoring
  • Development of new business opportunities
  • Supporting the delivery of effective transformational projects
  • Preparation of draft budgets for Site Managers; as well as providing guidance and interpreting in layman’s terms
  • Preparation of statutory and other financial returns
  • Preparation of Cashflow projections 
  • Assisting in the preparation of draft year-end accounts 
  • Other Ad Hoc finance related duties

To be considered for the role you must: 

  • Be a part qualified accountant through CIMA, ACCA or ICAS
  • Have a minimum of 5 years relevant finance experience 
  • Have experience of preparing management accounts
  • Have experience in a business partnering type role
  • Have experience with accounting software packages
  • Have excellent communication and relationship building skills 
  • Have good MS Office Excel literacy, including pivot tables, vlookups etc.

On Offer

The role of Management Accountant will offer a salary of £34,212 - £36,986 plus an additional benefits package including hybrid and flexible working. The office is based in Edinburgh and is easily accessible via public transport.
