iMultiply is supporting a growing scale up tech business in their search for a Financial Controller to join their team.  This role is offered on a full time permanent basis with a predominantly remote working model with the requirement to attend a few meetings a quarter in Glasgow and the odd meeting in London over the course of the year.

The Role

As the Financial Controller, your day will be a blend of financial strategy and hands-on execution. You'll start by diving into financial data, analysing performance metrics, and ensuring their financial operations run smoothly. Your role will involve preparing financial statements, managing cash flow, and overseeing day-to-day financial transactions. You'll join and collaborate closely with the Senior Management team to align financial goals with their strategic vision. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology platforms and help drive the company's growth.

 

Role Fundamentals:

  • Responsibility for low volume bank and balance sheet reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, UK payroll processes and VAT returns.
  • Preparation of consolidated management accounts.
  • Monitor cash flow to ensure liquidity and optimise resources.
  • Develop and manage financial budgets and forecasts.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support strategic initiatives and facilitating KPI discussions.
  • Financial reporting to investors.
  • Management of the board pack process.

Value-Add Activities:

  • Prepare detailed budgets and rolling 3-year forecasts for the board and investors.
  • Support the CEO on future fund raising (inc’ EIS).
  • Own the EMI process.
  • Source alternative external debt funding.
  • Maintain the cap-table and other company secretarial duties.
  • Assist the external accountants with the year-end stats and corporation tax filings (both UK & US).
  • Manage the transfer pricing policy.
  • Relationship management, think banks, lawyers, investors etc.
  • Negotiate insurance renewals.
  • Ad-hoc procurement & pricing queries.
  • Work with external advisors to manage the R&D claim process.
  • Refine & manage the bonus scheme for all departments.

The Ideal Candidate

The Financial Controller is a key position within the organisation, a member of the Senior Management team and integral to the companies future success.  The ideal candidate will be an experienced accountant, qualified or with significant experience with strong technical knowledge.

To succeed you will enjoy the highly collaborative, friendly and fast paced culture.  You will be comfortable operating as a stand-alone finance resource, organised and capable of managing concurrent and conflicting deadlines.  The successful candidate will be someone capable of adjusting their style and communicating effectively with a wide range of personality types, skillsets, and backgrounds.  Confident in your abilities and willing to stand up and be heard when appropriate, you will be equally confident to admit when you don’t know something.

Technical Skills:

  • Proven experience in financial management, preferably in the tech or SaaS industry.
  • Strong understanding of deferred revenue.
  • Strong proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards and regulations.
  • Familiarity with financial software and systems, ideally Xero.
  • High proficiency in Excel is essential and financial modelling experience would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of R&D Tax Credits and EMI would be favourable.
  • Ability to extract actionable insights from data.

Background:

  • A qualified accountant or qualified by experience.
  • Several years of experience in operational finance roles, including management positions.
  • Previous experience in a SaaS or tech company is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities of scale-up businesses.
