iMultiply is delighted to be working in partnership with Bookspeed in their search for a Financial Controller based in Edinburgh. The role is available on a remote basis with occasional attendance required in the Edinburgh office.

The Role 

Bookspeed’s Financial Controller will manage the day to day running of the finance function of the business. This role will require close monitoring of the key company ledgers, namely sales and purchase (in collaboration with colleagues in the finance team), and control on costs and budget management.

This role will be responsible for working with the Leadership Team to develop a formal forecasting, budget setting and management process for the business, including regular reporting against annual budgets and producing regular management accounts for The Board.

The role will have primary responsibility for the following: 

  • Preparing reports and management information for board level and being answerable to questions raised
  • Working closely with departments on expenditure and budgeting forecasts.
  • Internal controls on expenditure and reporting against budgets.
  • Oversight, management, and reconciliations of bank accounts and ledgers, including
  • Aged Debtors management – ensuring customers are paying on time and accurately. Working with the Credit Control Manager and our credit insurers to minimize bad debt risk and liaising with the managing director where the company is to take uninsured exposure out with pre-set parameters.
  • Aged Creditors management – working closely with the Purchase Ledger Controller to ensure suppliers are paid on time and accurately.
  • Preparing information for the company’s payroll provider in an accurate and timely manner
  • Overseeing the company’s pension scheme and benefits administration, communicating directly with colleagues and managers as needed.
  • Working in collaboration with the Operations Director and IT team to streamline accounting functions and operations – always looking for opportunities for efficiencies
  • Preparing for annual audit processes.
  • Cross-training others in the finance department to ensure your workload can be covered in your absence. Likewise, you will be expected to learn and understand you colleagues’ work so you can provide cover for them.
  • Liaising with the Ops team and managers on when colleagues join or leave the business, administering sickness, absence leave and any statutory payments.

Skills and Behaviours

  • Qualified/Part Qualified Accountancy professional level or equivalent experience
  • Have experience in budget management, financial reporting, and producing management accounts.
  • Be able to demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of all Microsoft Office applications, most specifically Excel,
  • Well organised, and can plan and manage time effectively to meet the key deadline dates and tasks of the role
  • Have high literacy and numeracy skills, with the ability to write both descriptive text and clear, accurate customer/supplier/peer communications
  • Be willing to undertake any other reasonable duties required by the company
