£40,000 - Non-for-Profit Sector - Part Qualified Accountant

The Organisation

The Finance Team supports the organisations delivery of its mission, strategic priorities and business objectives.  While utilising their ERP system, the team is responsible for effectively managing and planning the organisations financial resources, identification of sustainable funding streams, as well as accurate and timely financial statutory and management reporting.

The Role

The role of Finance Manager will report into a Head of Finance whilst also playing a key role across the financial planning function and throughout the business. This role will give a part or newly qualified accountant the opportunity to not only work on business-as-usual activities across the breadth of the organisation but also have a significant impact on improving processes and making the function more efficient and accurate. The successful candidate will apply analytical skills and offer financial insight which will bring them to bear on a broad range of business challenges.

You will be involved in but not limited to the following duties:

  • Assist the Head of Finance in the production of strategic and business plans and associated budgets and forecasts
  • Produce accurate and timely management accounts, including commentary on variances from budgets.
  • Work with budget holders, senior management team, managers, and the wider organisation to review performance against budget. 
  • Oversee financial systems, controls, and efficient maintenance of appropriate accounting records, including the month-end process to ensure the timely production of management information.
  • Oversee the monthly payroll process and ensure that payments and returns to HMRC are completed as required,
  • Prepare financial information for grant applications
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures 
  • Co-ordinate the year-end audit file, and alongside the Head of Finance liaise with the external auditors in the planning, fieldwork and follow-up work required in the preparation of the statutory audited accounts.
  • Manage, develop, and motivate a small finance team, ensuring the delivery of a responsive, high-quality service for stakeholders 
  • Manage finance-related improvement projects, delivering business change and ensuring the implementation of that change across the organisation.

To be considered for the role you must:

  • Be a Part qualified Accountant, ACCA, CIMA, ICAS or similar – Essential
  • Be able to demonstrate a strong detailed knowledge and understanding of management accounts preparation and journal preparation and processing.
  • Have strong technical skills in relation to budget management and current accounting regulations
  • Have good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Be able to analyse complex data to inform decision making
  • Good knowledge and experience of using accountancy software systems
  • Have good ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Be able to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Have strong communication, organisational and time management skills with ability to meet deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail

The role of Management Accountant will offer a more than competitive starting salary of £40,000 with an excellent benefits package including flexible home working and generous holiday allowance. The employer will also offer a generous pension. The role is based in Edinburgh and is easily accessible via public transport.
