The Role 

The Finance Manager is a key position within the SWA that will report directly to the COO The successful candidate will be a proven business partner who is able to support the organisation to achieve its goals and ensure a long-term sustainable future by providing a strategic input to the organisations key relationships. As a key member of the team the successful candidate will:

  • Support the COO, on all aspects of financial governance and planning
  • Work together with the finance team in preparing and maintaining all aspects of the association’s financial records.
  • Prepare annual budgets in conjunction with the COO; reviewing and reporting on those budgets on a regular basis, particularly the income and expenditure of the business and variances to budget.
  • Advise the CEO, COO and Finance Committee and Council, on all strategic and operational financial matters appropriate to delivering the strategy and remaining in a sustainable financial position.
  • Working with the COO to ensure that changes in the operating environment are reflected in appropriate changes in strategy and operational practice
  • Have a significant impact on the strategic priorities across the whole organisation.
  • In conjunction with the COO, and other members of the leadership team, attend meetings and events as appropriate to represent the organisation.

Key areas of focus will include:

  • Day-to-day leadership of the finance function, including the line management of staff, and ensuring effective controls are in place to support the integrity of all financial information.
  • Prepare budgets on an annual basis and prepare reports on financial performance against the SWA’s strategy for Council and Finance Committee, which would include annual salary review and personnel budget.
  • Cash flow planning and capital adequacy within the business.
  • Preparing management accounts, provide information, sundry reports, and financial advice on request.
  • Monitoring Association performance against budget, preparing reports for Finance Committee and Council on performance against KPIs.
  • Preparation of the statutory accounts and lead the year-end process, including liaising with the external auditors.
  • Prepare Corporation Tax Computations and Quarterly VAT Returns for SWA, SEEC & AIP. Liaise with HMRC and tax consultants
  • Prepare monthly payroll on Moorepay website, including yearend tax documentation (including P11ds, P60s, PAYE Settlement agreements).
  • Distribute and collect member Turnover Returns, calculate subscriptions, and prepare subscription invoices.
  • Develop accounting and other ancillary systems as required.
  • Support the COO in the preparation of Finance Committee, Council and Pension Trustee meeting papers.  Attend meetings where appropriate.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have the following experience: 

  • Proven track record of operating within a Senior Management capacity, having reported at CEO or COO level.
  • Substantial relevant and recent experience in financial planning, control, and risk management.
  • A relevant professional qualification (for example ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA)
  • Exceptional ability to communicate effectively with and influence a wide range of individuals at all levels
  • Ability to communicate technical financial ideas and information to non-financial managers and others without the same level of financial knowledge      
  • Ability to develop, implement and monitor effective systems, policies, strategies, and procedures
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships, including across organisational boundaries

The position of Finance Manager will offer a competitive salary dependant on experience plus an excellent benefits package. The organisation is looking to appoint on a full- time permanent basis and the office premises are in Edinburgh City Centre although remote working will also play a part of the role.
