iMultiply is working in partnership withCodeclan in their search for a Finance and Operations Director which can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow.

The Company 

CodeClan is the first digital skills academy in Scotland. Backed by Skills Development Scotland, Scottish Government, and ScotlandIS in 2015 and are now a stand-alone  social enterprise company with a mission to address the technology skills gap in Scotland.  

The Role 

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Finance and Operations Director will manage all aspects of CodeClan’s finances and operations. is a full-time executive role and the individual will be expected to participate on our Executive Team (Strategy and HR), Leadership Team (Execution and Management), Partner Advisory Boards, and attend outside events on behalf of CodeClan. This is a managerial role having 4 direct reports; Finance Assistant, Operational and Finance Support Assistant, Departmental Operations Manager, HR associate and other operational staff as required.  

This role will work closely with the CEO on strategic planning, growth and personnel issues and work day-to-day with the Executive Team on maintaining financial governance for the smooth operations of the business.   This role will be a part of the Executive Team and attend CodeClan board meetings, presenting financials and growth revenue plans.  

The role will have primary responsibility for the following: 

  • Ensuring robust systems and controls in place to manage CodeClan’s finances
  • Evolve and maintain the company’s financial policies, processes and systems to ensure an appropriate balance of risk mitigation and business flexibility
  • Ensure that all audit and financial governance requirements are met
  • Maintain accurate financial records and day-to-day book-keeping through our accounting system (Xero)
  • Support our auditors with annual accounts preparation
  • Preparation and processing of monthly payroll
  • Financial modelling. analysis and scenario planning in response to business opportunities
  • Proactively manage cash for the business including accounts payable and receivable and providing recommendations to the executive team on strategies for cash management
  • Tracking and recording of agreed financial KPIs
  • Assist in leading the sales pipeline meetings to be able to manage and predict revenue
  • Manage commercial incentive payments on overachieving targets
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Facilities contract management and cost management of our campuses
  • Monthly Management Accounts and associated reporting
  • Relationship building and contracts related to suppliers, clients, students etc
  • Be the contact to our 3rd party HR service for all employee issues.
  • Managing onboarding staff contracts, payroll etc
  • Be the coordinator of and maintain our employee benefit packages

The successful candidate must have:

  • Alignment with CodeClan values of passion, teamwork and forward thinking
  • A recognised accountancy qualification (ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA etc.)
  • A passion to work collaboratively with passionate colleagues to facilitate an ambitious growth strategy,
  • Strong technical accounting background,
  • Experience of a broad range of operational areas in addition to finance, such as facilities, IT, HR and legal
  • Experience of reviewing and updating KPIs, management and financial reporting, and board pack,
  • Experience reviewing and updating finance systems, controls and processes

It would be beneficial if the candidate has:

  • A passion for tech and innovation,
  • Experience in a start-up or high growth SME environments,
  • Experience of working within a training and development environment
