This is a Full-Time Accounts Assistant role offering a competitive salary, pension scheme amongst other benefits. This position will be based in Edinburgh and offers a hybrid working model allowing you the flexibility of working from home or in office.

The Role

The Accounts Assistant will report to the Accounts Receivable Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the allocation of all receipts from customers and correctly accounting for, and processing in a timely manner. In addition, the role will provide support to the credit control team, assisting with processing and administrative tasks.

As the Accounts Assistant, you will be involved in but not restricted to the following duties:

  • Downloading Invoice Financing and bank statements to create a daily banking sheet
  • Recording all incoming payments from customers and correctly allocate against customers’ accounts
  • Reconcile all customer accounts as requested and ensure there is no unallocated cash at the end of the week / month
  • Chase remittances where required
  • Lodge cheque and cash payments and other banking transactions
  • Assist with bank reconciliations
  • Arrange internal transfers for wrongly deposited customer payments and contact customers to advise of correct details by phone / email as required
  • Complete monthly Construction Industry Scheme calculations and feed into tax workings
  • Undertake filing in a timely manner
  • Direct Debit collection
  • Respond to any queries from the credit control team

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have the following:

  • Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of numeracy and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Packages (especially Excel) and a good understanding of accounting software
  • Flexible and adaptable to work within a fast-paced and busy environment
  • Ability to work to strict targets and deadlines
  • Can multitask and has the flexibility to complete a variety of projects
  • Previous experience in a similar role
